Gable Box
A gable box has the peaked-roof shape formed by two top panels that interlock into a carry handle. Grabbing the handle is enough to pick up the whole box, which eliminates the need for a separate bag. Bakeries hand out gable boxes for cupcake orders and pastry assortments. Event planners fill them with party favors. Gift shops use the shape because it signals "present" without wrapping paper. The interior is a single open cavity, wide enough for irregularly shaped items that would not fit a standard rectangular carton. Food-grade versions include grease-resistant coatings rated for direct contact with baked goods and fried items. Construction materials include SBS paperboard, kraft, corrugated, and white cardboard. The built-in handle supports up to about 5 lbs before the paper fibers at the interlock point start to fatigue. Cubit produces custom gable boxes from 100 units.
