Custom Tin-Tie Bags

Tin-tie bags are gusseted bags with a flexible metal or coated tie strip bonded across the top. After opening, the top is rolled down and the tie ends folded over to close it again. Coffee roasters, bakeries, tea and granola brands use them for a classic café look. Cubit makes them in kraft and barrier films, printed with your brand.

Also called: tin tie bags, tin tie coffee bags, tin tie bakery bags, fold-top bags, tin tie kraft bags, tie closure bags.

How tin-tie bags work

The tie is a thin strip, usually metal wire inside a paper or plastic coating, bonded just below the top of the bag. The bag is filled and heat sealed at the top. Once opened, the buyer rolls the top down two or three times and bends the tie ends back to hold it shut. It is simple, reusable and looks hand-made, which is why it suits coffee, bakery and artisan food.

Tin-tie bag styles

Tin ties are fitted to bags that roll down neatly:

  • Side gusset bags: the classic tin-tie coffee and tea bag.
  • Flat bottom bags: stand square on the shelf, with a tie instead of or as well as a zipper.
  • Kraft paper bags with a barrier lining: a natural look with protection inside.
  • Window bags: show cookies, granola or coffee beans.
  • Valve bags: tin ties combine with one-way degassing valves for roasted coffee.

Tin tie or zipper?

A zipper reseals more tightly and suits products that must stay airtight after opening. A tin tie gives a café look, rolls the bag down as it empties and works well for coffee, cookies, granola and loose tea. Some brands use both on a flat bottom bag.

Wholesale and bulk tin-tie bags

Coffee roasters and bakeries buy tin-tie bags wholesale in a few standard sizes and reorder them regularly. A bulk order can add a valve or window to every bag, and you can ask for plain and printed bags priced side by side.

Questions about tin-tie bags

What is a tin-tie bag?

A gusseted bag with a bendable tie strip bonded across the top, so the opened bag can be rolled down and closed again.

Are tin-tie bags good for coffee?

Yes. Tin-tie side gusset and flat bottom bags are a classic coffee format, and they combine with a one-way degassing valve for freshly roasted beans.

Do tin-tie bags keep food airtight?

Sealed at the top, the bag is airtight until opened. After opening, a tin tie closes the bag but not as tightly as a zipper, so it suits products used within a few weeks.

Can tin-tie bags be kraft paper?

Yes. Kraft paper bags with a barrier lining and a tin tie are one of the most popular bakery and coffee looks.

Do you sell tin-tie bags wholesale?

Yes. We make custom tin-tie bags to order and quote them factory-direct for bulk runs.

What do you need to quote tin-tie bags?

Bag style and size or fill weight, film or kraft, valve or window, quantity per design and your artwork.
