A paper bag is a flat-bottomed, gusseted pouch made from kraft or white paper that snaps open with a flick of the wrist. The industry calls this format an SOS (Self-Opening Sack). Standard grocery and takeout bags use 45-70gsm kraft, which keeps costs down and lets the bag fold flat in stacks of hundreds. Retail shopping bags step up to 120-200gsm for a sturdier feel and cleaner printing surface, while luxury boutique bags push to 200-300gsm with board-stiffened bottoms and folded-rim tops to anchor rope or ribbon handles. Handle types include twisted paper (supports 3-8 kg), flat tape for fast-food takeout, and rope or ribbon with eyelet reinforcement for high-end retail. Natural brown kraft communicates eco-friendly.
