Chipboard
Chipboard is made from compressed recycled paper fibers, typically 100% post-consumer waste. The gray-brown surface is rougher than SBS or white cardboard, so chipboard works best with full-coverage artwork or a white flood coat as a primer. Calipers range from 0.020 to 0.060 inches. Chipboard costs significantly less than SBS or white cardboard per ton, which makes it the default choice for cereal boxes, tissue boxes, and other high-volume retail cartons where material cost matters more than print finish. It is fully recyclable and the manufacturing process consumes less energy than virgin fiber production.
