Ordering 10,000 pouches is a different job from ordering 100,000. The print method can change. The share of the cost that goes to setup shrinks. Storage and reorder timing start to matter. This guide explains what a volume pouch quote is priced on and how lead time works, so you can plan a run of mylar bags, stand-up pouches, flat 3-side seal pouches, flat-bottom 8-side seal bags, spout pouches, sachets or rollstock.
This guide has no prices, because pouch pricing depends on too many variables. It covers what moves the price and what to send for an accurate quote.
What is a volume pouch quote priced on?
Every pouch quote comes down to the same inputs. Change one and the price changes.
| Price driver | What it covers | Why it matters at volume |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Stand-up, flat 3-side seal, flat-bottom 8-side seal, spout pouch, sachet, rollstock | More panels, seals or fitted parts mean more material and more steps per pouch |
| Size | Width, height and gusset | Film is the largest cost at high quantity, so small size changes add up |
| Material structure | Number of layers, barrier level, metallised or clear, matte or gloss | Higher barrier films cost more per square metre |
| Number of colors, coverage, spot finishes | Affects setup and press time | |
| Number of designs | One design or several flavors in the same run | Each design can add setup, depending on print method |
| Features | Zipper, tear notch, hang hole, valve, window, spout | Each adds a part or a step |
| Quantity | Your run, plus up to three larger runs | Shows how the unit cost moves as the run grows |
| Delivery speed | Normal, Express or Priority | Each option is listed on the quote with its turnaround |
Each Cubit quote prices your quantity plus up to three larger runs. If you ask for 25,000, you can ask for 50,000 and 100,000 to be priced on the same quote. Every quote also lists Normal, Express and Priority delivery, each with its turnaround.
Which pouch formats does this apply to?
Each format has its own cost profile.
- Mylar bags and stand-up pouches. The most common volume formats. See mylar bags wholesale and stand-up pouches wholesale.
- Flat 3-side seal pouches. Fewer seals and no gusset. They use the least film for a given face size.
- Flat-bottom 8-side seal bags. More film and more seals per bag. They stand like a box and give you five printable panels.
- Spout pouches. The spout is a separate part fitted to each pouch, which adds a component and a step.
- Sachets. Small single-use packs. Quantities run high, so size and film choice drive the total.
- Rollstock. Printed film on a roll for your own filling line. No bags are formed, so pouch features do not apply. See rollstock.
The full range of formats is on the flexible packaging page.
Digital or rotogravure: which print method fits your run?
Most volume pouch quotes compare two print methods: digital and rotogravure.
Digital printing prints straight from the file. There are no cylinders or plates to make. Setup is small, so it suits runs with several designs and lower counts per design. Changing artwork between runs adds little setup.
Rotogravure prints from engraved metal cylinders, one per color. The cylinders are a one-time setup cost for each design. Once they exist, the cost per pouch drops quickly as the run gets longer. Rotogravure handles solid colors and large coverage well.
In general terms:
- Few designs, long runs: rotogravure usually wins on unit cost.
- Many designs, shorter runs per design: digital usually wins.
- In between: it depends on size, colors and how many designs share the run.
There is no single crossover quantity. That is why seeing your quantity and up to three larger runs on one quote is useful. Ask your rep which print method the quote is based on.
What changes at 10,000, 25,000, 50,000 and 100,000 pouches?
These are general patterns, not fixed rules.
| Quantity | What usually changes | What to plan |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 | Setup is a large share of each unit cost. Digital is often in play, especially with several designs. | Keep sizes and materials the same across designs |
| 25,000 | A common point to compare digital and rotogravure for one or two designs. | Ask which print method the quote assumes |
| 50,000 | Setup is spread thin. Film and size now drive most of the cost. | Check whether a slightly smaller pouch still fits your fill |
| 100,000 | Material is the largest share of the cost. Small changes in size or film show up in the total. | Plan storage space and reorder timing |
At every level, the cost per pouch generally falls as quantity rises. How fast it falls depends on how much of the cost is setup and how much is material.
How long does a bulk pouch order take?
Production takes 7 to 12 business days after you approve the proof. The clock starts at proof approval, not at the quote date.
The steps run in this order:
- Quote. You get your price for your quantity and up to three larger runs, with Normal, Express and Priority delivery listed.
- Artwork and proof. You send artwork. A proof is prepared for you to check.
- Proof approval. Nothing is printed until you approve the proof.
- Production. 7 to 12 business days after approval.
- Delivery. Orders ship delivered duty paid (DDP) to your door. You choose normal or fast delivery on the quote.
DDP stands for delivered duty paid. Duties are paid before the order reaches you, so there is no duty to pay when the pouches arrive.
To shorten the total time, send print-ready artwork and approve the proof quickly. Late artwork changes mean a new proof, and the production clock starts again from the new approval.
How do multi-flavor runs work?
Many brands order one pouch size in several flavors, scents or strains.
To get the most from a multi-flavor run:
- Keep one size and one material structure. This keeps the run simple and the pricing clear.
- Send the split per design. For example, 40,000 pouches across four flavors at 10,000 each, or an uneven split if some sell faster.
- Use a shared base design. Keep the brand panel the same and change only the flavor name and color band. On rotogravure, if the designs differ in only one or two colors, the cylinders for the other colors can sometimes be shared. Ask your rep.
- Consider print method by count per design. Four designs at 25,000 each is a different job from ten designs at 10,000 each.
How do reorders work?
One rep handles your account and your reorders.
A reorder with no artwork or spec changes is the simplest order to place. You still approve a proof before anything is printed. If a design changes, the new design gets its own proof.
If your first run was rotogravure and the artwork has not changed, ask your rep whether the existing cylinders can be reused.
Plan reorders by working back from the date you will run out. Allow time for proof approval, 7 to 12 business days of production, and the delivery option you choose on the quote.
What should you send for a bulk pouch quote?
Send as much of this as you can:
- Format: stand-up, flat 3-side seal, flat-bottom 8-side seal, spout pouch, sachet or rollstock
- Size: width, height and gusset, or the product and fill weight if you are unsure
- Material: barrier needs, clear or metallised, matte or gloss
- Features: zipper, tear notch, hang hole, valve, window or spout
- Print: number of colors, any spot finishes
- Designs: number of designs and the quantity split per design
- Quantity: your main quantity, plus up to three larger runs to price
- Delivery address, for DDP delivery
- The date you need the pouches in hand
- Artwork status: print-ready, in progress, or not started
Kitting, co-packing and fulfillment are arranged through partners, not done in-house. If you need pouches filled, kitted or packed, mention it when you ask for a quote.
For larger programs across several product types, see bulk packaging. When you are ready, request a quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much do 10,000 custom pouches cost?
It depends on format, size, material, print method, number of designs, features and delivery speed. Your quote prices your quantity plus up to three larger runs, so you can see how the cost per pouch changes as the run grows.
How long does production take for a bulk pouch order?
Production takes 7 to 12 business days after you approve the proof. The order then ships delivered duty paid to your door, with normal or fast delivery chosen on the quote.
Is digital or rotogravure printing better for 50,000 pouches?
It depends on how many designs share the run and how many colors each uses. Rotogravure usually suits few designs at high counts. Digital usually suits many designs at lower counts per design. Ask your rep which method your quote is based on.
Can I order several flavors in one bulk pouch run?
Yes. Send the number of designs and the quantity for each one. Keeping one size and one material across flavors keeps the run simple.
What does DDP delivery mean for my pouch order?
DDP stands for delivered duty paid. Duties are paid before the order reaches you, and the pouches are delivered to your door. You choose normal or fast delivery on the quote.
