Retail Packaging Styles
Tuck End Retail Carton
The standard retail shelf box. STE or RTE closure, full-color offset printing. Fits most consumer products from electronics to toys. Sizes from 2×2×4″ to 12×8×6″.
Window Display Box
Die-cut PET window lets shoppers see the product inside. Increases conversion by 30%+ vs solid cartons. Popular for cosmetics, food, and small electronics.
Hang-Tab Carton
Euro-slot or butterfly-hole hang tab for pegboard and J-hook retail displays. Reinforced 400gsm board around the hang hole prevents tearing under product weight.
Shelf-Ready Tray (SRP)
Perforated outer carton that tears away to become a shelf display. Used by major retailers (Walmart, Target, Costco). Ships, stocks, and sells in one package.
Rigid Gift Box
Wrapped chipboard box with magnetic or lift-off lid. Premium unboxing for luxury goods, holiday gifts, and subscription boxes. Ribbon, tissue, and custom inserts available.
Counter Display Box (CDU)
Countertop display holding 12–48 individual units. Angled front for product visibility. Header card for branding. Ships flat, assembles in 10 seconds.
Retail Packaging FAQ
What makes packaging 'shelf-ready'?
Shelf-ready packaging (SRP) is designed to go directly from shipping carton to store shelf without repacking. The outer case has perforated tear-away panels that reveal a retail-ready tray with product facing. Major retailers like Walmart and Target require SRP to reduce stocking labor. We design SRP that meets specific retailer compliance specs.
What size retail boxes do you manufacture?
Any size from 1×1×2 inches (small cosmetic carton) up to 16×12×8 inches (large electronics box). Common sizes: 3×3×5 (perfume), 4×4×6 (candle/small product), 6×4×2 (cosmetics kit), and 10×8×4 (electronics accessory). Custom sizes at no extra cost — we cut dies for your exact product dimensions.
How do I make my retail boxes stand out on shelves?
Three proven techniques: soft-touch matte lamination with spot UV (creates a tactile contrast customers pick up), metallic foil stamping on the logo and product name (catches light from 10+ feet away), and embossed/debossed textures (adds a premium dimension). Combining all three costs about $0.08–0.15/unit more but increases shelf pickup rate by 40%.
What is the minimum order for custom retail boxes?
500 units for offset-printed folding cartons with premium finishes. Digital printing available from 100 units for test batches and limited editions. Volume breaks at 2,500 (12% off), 5,000 (20% off), and 10,000+ (28% off). All orders include free die line, 3D render, and continental US shipping.
Do you offer retail-compliant barcode placement?
Yes. We position UPC/EAN barcodes per GS1 specifications — minimum 80% magnification, proper quiet zones, and scanner-readable orientation. Barcode placement is included in structural design. We also handle QR codes, lot numbers, and variable data printing for traceability requirements.
Can you match my brand's Pantone colors exactly?
Yes. Offset printing uses Pantone Matching System (PMS) spot colors for exact brand color reproduction. We pull a press proof (physical printed sample) for approval before the full run. Digital printing uses CMYK simulation that gets within Delta E 2.0 of your PMS target — close enough for most applications.
