What is a CDU in retail?
A CDU is a Counter Display Unit — a countertop-sized corrugated or folding carton display that holds 6–48 individual product units. It's placed near checkout registers or on store counters to drive impulse purchases. CDUs are the most cost-effective POP display, starting around $2–5/unit depending on size and print complexity.
How tall should a floor display be?
Standard floor displays are 48–60 inches tall for supermarkets and drug stores (eye level for standing adults). Club stores like Costco use shorter 36–48 inch displays. Maximum height is typically 72 inches before stability becomes an issue. We engineer base geometry and ballast shelving to prevent tipping at your specified height.
What material are display boxes made from?
CDUs use either E-flute corrugated (lightweight, good print quality) or 24PT SBS folding carton board (premium feel). Floor displays use B-flute or double-wall corrugated for structural strength. All displays feature full-color lithographic labels or direct print for vibrant retail-quality graphics.
How many units should a counter display hold?
12–24 units is the sweet spot for most products. Fewer than 12 looks sparse and gets removed by store staff; more than 36 takes too much counter space and gets rejected by store managers. For small products (lip balm, gum), 24–48 units works. For larger items (supplements, snacks), 6–12 units is standard.
What is the minimum order for custom display boxes?
250 units for counter display units (CDUs) with full-color lithographic labels. Floor standing units start at 100 units due to higher per-unit cost. Pallet displays start at 50 units. All include structural engineering, graphic design templates, and a physical prototype for retail approval testing.
Can display boxes be pre-loaded with product?
Yes. We offer co-packing services — your product ships to our facility, and we load each display unit before shipping to retail locations. Pre-loaded displays reduce retailer labor (they just place the display) and ensure correct product positioning. Most effective for seasonal promotions and new product launches.
